Every day we at EFA carry forward the work of World Animal Day, we celebrate animals, donating from sales, promoting charities as wide ranging as sea otters, kittens and tapirs. Join us on this day to celebrate and love all the animals of the world.
* To celebrate animal life in all its forms.
* To acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives – from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives.
* To acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives.
World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. Since then it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and is widely celebrated in countries throughout the world.
October 4 was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
It is intended as a day of celebration for anyone in the world who cares about animals. It is not restricted to any one nationality, creed, religion, political belief or ideology.
Happy World Animal Day to everyone! Thank you Marjorie for the great write up :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the synopsis, Marjorie !
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that WAD is also St. Francis de Assisi's day. I have a gorgeous 'carving' of him on my property :)
Great! "To celebrate animal life in all it's forms," love that!
ReplyDeleteHappy world animal day! I love this: "To acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives." I absolutely agree!

YAY!! I cannot even begin to fathom life without animals. I think the saints understand how important animals are in contributing to the goodness we humans possess!
ReplyDeleteOctober seems to be a month for the animals. On or about Oct 2 was also "World Farm Animals Day", which coincides with Mohandas Ghandi's birthday.
ReplyDeleteYay for the animals! And thank you, Marjorie, for the terrific post.
