Lion Love

You gotta see this. A lion greets a woman who rescued him as a cub. It brings back memories of my time at the sanctuary, though I never experienced anything quite like this!

"Iris and Foxgloves" by Elizabeth Ruffing

These are two of my favorite flowers, and I especially like to plant them together in my garden. They are shown here on an overcast day because I love the way the outdoors, and in particular, how the garden looks, just before a thunderstorm. The sky gets darker, but somehow, the colors of everything around you seem to glow. I’ve set the iris against a hazy, darkened background of blues and greens, which makes their warm peach-pink color stand out. I added a border of delicate leaves and little flowers on muted teal green to enclose the scene.

This is a new, hand-signed, fine art giclée print made from my original watercolor painting "Iris and Foxgloves". The image is approximately 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches on 8 1/2 x 11 inch fine art paper. It is signed in pencil below the image, leaving a nice white border for ease in framing. It comes in a protective cello sleeve. It is available in my Etsy shop at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5385859

10% of sales (less shipping) from my Etsy shop, elizabethruffing.etsy.com, and my mom's Etsy shop, aeruffing.etsy.com, will go to animal charities.

Green Lab Note Cards from jenrosesegrest

From JenRoseSegrest:

I love painting different animals in funky, vibrant colors. I try to pick colors that will communicate the playful energy of animals to the viewer. This painting is of a yellow lab puppy. Anyone who has owned a labrador knows that they are a handful and "FULL" of energy. So I thought a nice lime green hue would practically vibrate off the page, and communicate this puppy's anxious energy.

Here's the listing:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=9931861

Each of my cards contain a print of one of my original watercolor paintings .

Included with each of these cards is a standard A2 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 envelope.
The images are printed on white #110 lb card stock.
On the back is my logo, printed at the bottom of the card.
The set of four is packed in a sealed cellophane sleeve.

"A Friendly Face" by A E Ruffing

There is something especially open and honest in the face of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Friendly, affectionate, and good-natured, he has lots of self-confidence. He looks out from a cheerful green background, and is enclosed with a border of teal with swirling leaves. This is a new, hand-signed, open edition fine art giclée made from my original watercolor painting "A Friendly Face". It is a standard 8 x 10 inch image size, on 9 x 11 inch art paper. It is available in my Etsy shop at http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=6779370

10% of sales (less shipping) from my Etsy shop, aeruffing.etsy.com, and my daughter's Etsy shop, elizabethruffing.etsy.com, will go to animal charities.

Animals in Need - NEWS

Have $5 to spare? Give it a home at the Animal Adoption Centre, or Hillside SPCA both of which are in imminent danger of closure due to lack of funds - things look desperate for them both. A small donation will help them out. We know you can't give to everyone all the time but remember - each small amount builds to make a bigger one - as we know very well from our donations to the EFA charity of the month.

Here is the full list, please take a moment in this mad struggling world of ours to help those who need a paw up :-

URGENT : THIS needs your help now - just click, add your name and lets make this list of people much longer. Click here for the Petition to Save 300 Pets from Euthanasia.

Hilside SPCA in Pennsylvania in danger of closing: The current economic crisis is affecting them badly. In a couple of weeks it will be too late - keeping going is more economical that building up from a standing start. You save more animals when you are open and working than closed and defeated.

Please help the Animal Adoption Centre in NJ stay open for the animals! Michele says this is a No Kill Shelter that may have to close b/c of funding problems. She says "Please help them, out, I just donated on their website thru paypal." OK I did too (that's half the $10 in my Paypal account gone :-)

Donations and offers of help have been pouring in to Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary (Jupiter, FL) after an overnight fire broke out in its hospital… close to 40 dogs have been given temporary shelter while staffers and volunteers figure out what they must do next.

Many thanks to Michele (mvegan5) for her extensive update on urgent charity needs.

Iguana In The Wild by Lissa Lush

From Lissalush:

When I was "thinking green" for the EFA challenge, I thought about green animals, and from that came this work, Iguana In The Wild. I like the idea of iguanas living in their natural habitat.

Iguana in the Wild measures 5 by 7 inches. It's created on 120 lb. test Canson watercolor paper with pigments. All materials are archival.

This work is signed Iguana In The Wild by Lissa Lush, 2.08 on the back.

This is a beautiful appliqued green shamrock on a lovely, royal blue linen. The back of this pillow is a complimenting green and blue plaid.

The pillow measures approx. 14" x 15" at its widest points.

The bright blue and green can't help but give off an Irish vibe to any room in the house!

A plea from jenrosesegrest - Save Seals!!

This was posted on the yahoo group and I think it deserves wider attentionvia the blog. From jenrosesegrest

Noted fashion photographer and "America's Next Top Model" host Nigel Barker has joined with The Humane Society of the United States to stop the cruel Canadian seal hunt. He's designed his own T-shirt to raise awareness of the hunt and has been wearing it everywhere -- from Fashion Week to the red carpet. In early March, he traveled with The HSUS's ProtectSeals team to the Gulf of St. Lawrence and photographed the wonder of the harp sealnursery. Now he's holding a contest to see who can get the most people to sign the pledge to boycott Canadian seafood. There are great prizes (a signed photo, the exclusive T-shirt, and more!) but the real prize is ending this pointless hunt once and for all.

Why boycott Canadian seafood? Seal hunting is an off-season activity for Canada's commercial fishermen, who earn a small fraction of their incomes from killing baby seals for their fur. That's why a financial blow to the commercial fishing industry's seafood exports is key to bringing about an end to this vicious slaughter.

I hope you'll sign the pledge and then tell more friends. The contest ends at midnight EDT March 24, so please take action
right now. Thanks for joining me in ending this cruel hunt. Here is the link:

March EFA Charity - Treasury

Michele (mvegan5) has grabbed an Etsy Treasury for our March Charity VSPCA Cow Charity in India. It looks SO good and we owe Michele a big thank you for being able to showcase such amazing stuff. You didn't think cows were inspirational? Think again :-)

Please go and check it out and do lots of click through's - it will make us look soooo good!

I am trying to upload the Treasury image (in spite of Blogger!) but go and check the link for the visuals - please!!

The Storque has published a more detailed report on the Team Tags issue here. It is worth a read to bring yourself up to speed as a seller, and as a buyer.

Remember if we use the team tags it will be easier for people to find EFA linked items. If you DO have any questions on team tags it is worth raising them for discussion in the YaEFA Yahoo Group list.

Tag Update for Etsy Sellers

Michele posted the following message on the EFA Yahoo group and as it concerns tags I thought it would be helpful to post it here too.

Michele (mvegan5) says :-

"Tags: Hi all, I convoed with Sara from street teams admin directly, and she said adding team is strongly reccomended but not required right now, she reccomends phasing it in. So, I think "efa" is fine, but if you add new ones, "team efa" with a space is best, it includes team, and allows the items to be found by an "efa" search. Thank you so much all!"

So, it seems that while it's not vitally important to change EFA related tags right this minute, it will be a helpful and useful thing to do. It will focus searches on the right things and encourage more accurate searching. We can then start asking people to look for 'team efa'. It may seem a bit of a fuss but the whole point is to get searches working more accurately and if we want people to find EFA and help save even more animals - we must do everything we can. Both you and EFA supporting sellers and the EFA shop need support to help animals - tags help!!

Vintage Owlies Drops Earrings

My Vintage Owlie Drops earrings are my entry for the Green Challenge.

I love using vintage/recycled materials in my artwork and jewelry, and both the owls and green drops are vintage pieces. By creating with and purchasing items that are vintage, re-used, or recycled, we reduce our environmental footprint.

EFA Featured!!

Miriam at CrafterbyNight has featured EFA on her site! Please go over the check out our little warm fuzzy feeling of pride! :-) She has done a wonderful job highlighting all the good things we do at EFA with links and feature images from the Big Boss Michele (mvegan5)

Oh and please leave a comment, it's really easy, and that way Miriam knows you appreciate her kind words (and you can add her to your RSS or Atom feed via clear links on her page if you want to).

She is also on Ravelry as mostlymouse (for knitters and fibre people) so thank you Miriam from everyone at Etsy for Animals.

Team Tags information

Etsy is currently rethinking its 'Team' tags category and this is causing a lot of discussion. It appears there has been tag abuse in the team category, which means all Team members across Etsy may have to change how their tags are written for their team items.

A suggestion was made, and our Team Leader mvegan5 Michele is in discusson about our exact wording and other matters. Details will be clarified soon and appear both on the EFA Team yahoo group and here on the blog.

This is nothing to worry about and a measure we will all be able to undertake in our own time. Just keep your eye open for Team Tag news over the next week or so.

Shamrocking Collar for Dogs

From FreshAirPets

Let your dog get his or her green on with this St. Patrick's Day themed dog collar. 10% of the proceeds from the sale of this collar will go toward the Etsy For Animals (efa) charity for the month for March: Visakha SPCA Cow Sanctuary (VSPCA-India).

The collar is made with 100% cotton fabric which features green clover scattered across a black background. What you can't see in the picture are the little gold sparkles in the fabric, which have a subtle iridescent quality. It is really stylin', unisexy, and will look great on any coat color.

I use contoured side-release buckles when making my collars because the curved shape is more comfortable for the dog. Also, I use cast metal D-rings (not welded like some others) for added strength and durability. The collar is machine washable, but don't take it for a tumble, just let it air dry flat.

This dog collar is available in four adjustable size ranges as follows:

SMALL 5/8" wide and adjustable 10"-15" in length
MEDIUM 3/4" wide and adjustable 12"-19" in length
LARGE 1" wide and adjustable 15"-24" in length
XLARGE 1" wide and adjustable 17"-29" in length
