1. Tell the White House to Stop Breed Discrimination on Military Bases

The White House just issued an official statement opposing breed specific legislation (BSL) on the grounds that it is costly and, more importantly, ineffective. Logically, this should extend to breed discriminatory regulations in place on U.S. military bases that prevent people from keeping certain types of dogs based on their looks. 

Please send a letter to President Obama thanking him for opposing BSL and asking him to take action against BSL on military bases.

2. Help Crack Down on Spectators at Animal Fights

This week 16 welfare organizations stepped up to rescue 367 dogs in what's believed to be the second largest bust in U.S. history. While there are laws on the books dealing with those directly involved in animal fighting, loopholes still exist for spectators. 

Please sign a letter to lawmakers asking them to support the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, which would crack down on those who attend animal fights and impose heftier penalties for anyone who brings a minor along.

3. Tell California to Ban Lead Ammunition

A bill in California that would ban lead ammunition for hunting and potentially save hundreds of wild animals from lead poisoning, including endangered California condors, is on the table. Unfortunately, it's being opposed by some hunting organizations and the NRA that claim its safe, despite scientific evidence to the contrary. 

Please sign the petition supporting a ban on lead hunting ammunition in the state.

1. Tell Russia to Set Captured Belugas Free

A few years ago 18 beluga whales were captured at the behest of the Georgia Aquarium. However, this month the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration denied the aquarium's application for a permit to import them into the U.S. for display. Now their advocates are worried they'll be sold to the highest bidder from a country that doesn't have protections for marine mammals. 

Please sign the petition urging the Russian Department of Fisheries to allow a team of scientists to assess their health and rehabilitate them for release those who are fit back into the wild.

2. Help Cats at Washington University

What looked like a victory this June when a spokesman confirmed that the university would no longer be using cats to teach students how to perform tracheal intubation in its Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) course, turns out to be nothing more than deception. The school will still be using cats and ferrets to teach pediatric residents.

3. Help Carriage Horses in Utah

The collapse of a carriage horse named Jerry in Salt Lake City this past weekend has stirred up the debate around this industry and led to renewed calls for a ban. Jerry was suffering from colic and some believe the temperature, which reached 97 degrees that day, added to his distress. 

City officials admit things may need to change and are looking into issues with carriage horses, but won't commit to doing anything just yet.
