"Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego is a non-profit animal welfare group that was formed as a network of foster homes in response to the overwhelming number of unwanted and abandoned Chihuahuas in the San Diego area. Today, we help to place all types of Chihuahuas into caring homes."
Their Mission: "Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego is dedicated to rescuing and caring for homeless, abandoned and injured Chihuahuas. We provide medical attention, loving foster homes and adoption counseling in an effort to find our adoptable dogs the most suitable forever homes.
Chihuahuas are one of the most over-represented breeds in San Diego shelters, and we are committed to reducing this statistic by increasing spay/neuter awareness in our community."
What They Do: "Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego is truly a unique animal welfare organization. CRSD provides food, shelter, medical care, spay or neuter, as well as adoption services for abandoned, neglected, abused, and injured pets. We also try to provide education for new adopters and they can always call with questions.
Chihuahuas are bold, lively, saucy, and courageous. This breed is not for small children. Chihuahuas may snap at teasing children. Due to their relatively small size, they may feel threatened and resort to using their teeth. Please do your research and make sure this is the right decision for you and your family. CRSD stands by all of its animals and should it be necessary, it takes back any animals it has adopted out at any time."
I became familiar with Chihuahua Rescue of SanDiego when one of the volunteers purchased some blankets from me for her foster Chihuahuas. I thought that was a very special thing to do. One of the main reasons I enjoy selling on Etsy is because you get to know your customers and the more I found out about her and Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego, the more I wanted to do something to help them.
I live in Hawaii now but I grew up in Southern California. As a teen we brought a little mix breed Chihuahua puppy into our family. It was a perfect environment for her to thrive, an older household with two teenage girls. I became very fond of the breed. It breaks my heart knowing what wonderful but vulnerable dogs they are, and how misguided adults and children take advantage of them, misunderstand them , mistreat them because of their size or discard them like last years fashion.
In Southern California and especially the San Diego area Chihuahuas are the most over represented breed that comes into the shelters. I don’t know if it is because of Hollywood and the designer dog thing or just the preference for the breed in Southern California culture but these poor animals are filling the shelters.
They start out so tiny (our Penny fit into the palm of my hand when she was a puppy) people do not understand that a chihuahua is not a toy or a status accessory, but a dog that needs training, love, attention and responsible ownership. So many of these animals are abandoned, abused, misunderstood and that is where CRSD comes to the rescue.
CRSD is such an outstanding organization and they are doing all they can to re-home these abandoned dogs. CRSD provides food, shelter, and medical care, spay or neuter, as well as adoption services for abandoned, neglected, abused, and injured pets. The more funds they are able to raise the more lives they can save and reduce the number of Chihuahuas in kill shelters.
I am so grateful that they are going to be our Charity of the Month for July. Please visit their website and learn about what they do and I hope that you will be able send a little donation their way.
Thank you so much!
