Parlez-vous 'COUPONS'??
It has come to the attention of EFA that Amanda of Abandoned Wild Baby Animal Rescue (AWBAR) needs our help. Here is an excerpt from the Yahoo post with the appeal :-
"She (Amanda) is anticipating a lot of new animals to care for this spring and needs to buy supplies. You can contact Amanda (or find out more about AWBAR) through her Etsy store, or at her website
Amanda says:
If anyone cuts out coupons can you please mail me them for dog food, cat food, and cat litter! That would be awesome. I will be shopping in the next weeks for supplies that I need to get started. Six 5lbs buckets of Esbilac is $330.00! That's special formula to help feed the baby wild animals! The time is getting closer! So if anyone can help me out in any way, please let me know.
Thanks again for everyone's support!:
Amanda has some cute things in her store as fundraisers buttons, earrings, Valentine's Day cards.
I know Amanda will be thrilled if we can support her in any way at all, so, Go On, buy an AWBAR button at least!

Silent Auction Appeal for SASHA Farm
El at tantalizingstitches has been sent the following appeal and Etsy for Animals sellers are already springing into action - please join them. Any Etsy sellers (EFA or not) who would like to donate to the Silent Auction fundraiser please read below, it has all the information you need, where to send, who to contact.
One thing from a store - your store - might mean another animal is helped - medical care paid for, food purchased, a life saved.
Silent Auction Fundraiser for SASHA Farm in Manchester, MI
Deadline: received by April 12, 2008
What to donate: anything vegan (no leather, wool, bone, feathers, etc)
Please send inquiries to Sarah Maki, the organizer. She can be reached by sending a message to this yahoo group or by email at silentauction@sashafarm.org.
This is the information El has received from the organizer, Sarah Maki:
Hello crafters! I am organizing a silent auction fundraiser for SASHA Farm in Manchester, Mi. SASHA currently houses over 200 animals, each one with their own unique story. We have abandoned cats, rescued dogs, a steer who escaped the slaughterhouse and ran amok over downtown Detroit, retired race horses, pigs and goats from soft-hearted 4H kids, a little of everything! We provide food and shelter, medical care, and all the love and attention an animal could ever want for each of our residents.
Obviously, food and medicine for 200 farm animals gets expensive, so we hold fundraisers like our annual banquet and auction. Which is where you, my big-hearted crafters, come in. In past auctions, handmade items have generated huge bids. Who does handmade better than anyone? Etsy of course!
All items donated are tax deductible, SASHA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Your store name and web address will be listed on the donor list that is part of the evening's program and also posted on the SASHA site after the auction so that auction attendees can find you. I will display each item with any business cards or signage you send. The only guidelines are that all items must be vegan (no leather, wool, bone, feathers, etc)and I must receive all donations by April 12 of this year. For more info about the farm or the auction, you can contact me at SilentAuction@SashaFarm.org, or check out our website at www.SashaFarm.org

Bedding Appeal
EFA has had an appeal for bedding for dogs from Heather. Please read on and see if you can help.
Heather says " The Hartford CT, dog pound in Newington CT is looking for clean, used bedding for the dogs that they have housed there. I'm collecting some stuff for them, and will be happy to drive it to them. I am in Western, MA/CT Line. My husband works in Framingham, Ma at the Leland Street Verizon Building, and can pick up items there. Email me offlist, and I'll get you more information, and a time to meet him at, or if your in my area, you could meet me. Feel free to pass the idea, around and or use it in your area. It's almost that time of year, of Spring cleaning.. so this will give us a jump on it, and help some shivering dogs. Plus it's free, did I mention free? Gives new life, to some old blankets and towels.. etc.
Thanks so much, Heather "
I have asked people visiting the blog and reading this post to convo Heather in the first instance rather than publish her e-mail address on the net. When you respond, please put your own e-mail in your message and she can contact you direct thereafter.

Meet Mishkat
EFA gets a lot of help from members, all 100% voluntary and done with the interests of animals at its very heart. One of the hard working members in the current EFA team is Katie aka 'Mishkat'. You will find her commenting on threads regularly to keep them prominent on the Etsy Forum encouraging sellers, and using her non-seller talents to help EFA in every way she can. I recently interviewed Katie to spotlight her commitment and hard work..........
"Where in the world are you?
I'm in southwestern Virginia in the USA. I am an environmental scientist and work in research and extension at Virginia Tech.
Do you have any animals of your own?
I have three cats: Franklin, my gray Etsy avatar cat; Tasha, a tortoiseshell; and Dobby, a large orange tabby. I love all animals, but am particularly partial to cats.
FRANKLIN
How did you discover Etsy for Animals?
I found out about Etsy for Animals through Renovia of endlesswhimsy, who made some wonderful custom cat sculptures for me. I then saw a forum thread about the EFA shop a few weeks after it started, purchased something, and got a really nice note from Michele (mvegan5) thanking me for buying. I asked her if there was anything I could do to help out, and she said that I could help bump some of the EFA threads on the forum. I've been doing that ever since.
What gives you the most satisfaction in helping out with EFA?
I am not able to work directly in animal rescue, although I have the deepest admiration for those who do. So I've always tried to contribute money – my friends who work in animal rescue and welfare say that this is also a excellent way to help out. Working with EFA is a way I can assist in raising money for these very important causes, and I'm grateful for the opportunity.
DOBBY
Do you have any tips for EFA members?
One really simple thing anyone can do is put information about EFA in their Etsy shop announcement and/or profile. I found out about EFA after reading endlesswhimsy's announcement. And since I'm a buyer-only, clicking on my Etsy avatar takes people straight to my profile. I have information about EFA there, and several people have asked me about it – two sellers have told me that they found out about EFA after reading my profile.
Another thing that is easy to do is bump the forum threads about EFA. There is a dedicated group of friendly EFA thread-bumpers but we could always use company – please feel free to chime in and tell us about your pets, your latest creation, the weather - or just say hi. We've had both sellers and buyers find out about EFA and the EFA shop from the forum threads.
And my tip to EFA sellers is: put "EFA" in your tags! This helps other EFA members find you for EFA treasuries, and also helps those who'd like to buy from EFA sellers.
Where do you think EFA needs help?
I was a member of Etsy for months before I realized that EFA existed, and I know there are a lot of other people who, like me, would love to support EFA by buying or selling but don't know about it. Promoting EFA both on and off Etsy can help to help reach these people. For example, Celeste of CricketsCreations recently did an interview with Michele on her blog on the Best Friends Animal Society Network (http://network.bestfriends.org/Blogs/Detail.aspx?b=1679). The network has a large audience of people who care about animals, and who may not have heard about EFA - or Etsy - before.
EFA also requires a lot of work behind the scenes. I can't say enough to praise the work that Michele, El (elephantdance), shessochic, 4utheworld, WHSKR, darktemptations, midnightrabbits, woodnvisions, and all the other people who help out with the shop, blog, Yahoo group, Flickr groups, Etsy forums, and promos are doing. (I wish I could name everyone here!) But help is always needed – Michele, El, and others will often post requests for assistance on the EFA Yahoo group, so I'd encourage those who want to do more to check in there - or just ask!
TASHA
Thanks for interviewing me!"

Kerri Hale: store spotlight
Kerri Hale has donated her Rose Quartz, Blue Peruvian Opal, Purple Fluorite Sterling Silver Gemstone Earrings, which is available at the etsyforanimals store.
Vermont resident Kerri Hale is the classic talent behind the Etsy shop of the same name. "I love playing with gems and mineral specimens, so making jewelry is tons of fun for me." Besides crafting equisite jewelry, she also writes, plays the guitar and piano, and loves to go for drives and listen to music. She's also been known to walk around her garden with a glass of wine on summer evenings.
Her style is natural and "organic, which is to say I try to make the gemstones the stars, and showcase their natural beauty as best I can." She's been crafting her entire life, but only started creating her natural gemstone and silver jewelry two years ago. "I would love to get to a point where I could either be completely self supporting through my jewelry, or at least get to the point where I wouldn't have to work overtime at my regular 9-5 job in order to pay my bills," she confesses. "It's important to let yourself shine through your work, and to have your shop feel a lot like you...and good pictures are a must." Kerri's photos are certainly among the best. I believe hers are the epitome of what fellow Etsy sellers should strive for. Please visit her shop: http://kerrihale.etsy.com/
