AUG COTMS 1-2-3: United Animal Alliance, Baldwin County Humane Society, German Shepherd Rescue of New England

AUGUST 2012
ANYTHING GOES
CHARITY OF THE MONTH

Usually each month, TEAM EFA designates one animal charity as our Charity of the Month (aka COTM).

During the month of August, Team EFA's Charity of the Month is ANYTHING GOES… which means that efa cotm members who participate in our COTM program will be able to select from any of our last 11 charities when making their donations.

As is becoming tradition during the quieter summer month of August... patrons, sponsors & members have a renewed opportunity to look back on EFA's 2011/12 COTM charities and assist one or several of these fabulous organizations.

Each week we will look at 3 COTMS... ENJOY & please donate if you can !

German Shepherd Rescue of New England

nominated by Alicia of Woodsedge

The German Shepherd Rescue of New England (GSRNE) is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to, providing veterinary care and evaluations before finding forever homes for German Shepherds in need.

GSRNE works through a network of volunteers who have opened their hearts and homes to take dogs of all ages who come from all walks of life, whether they were abused, found as strays, were owner surrenders or were left behind when their owners passed away. All the dogs who come into GSRNE are spayed/neutered, updated on vaccinations and receive whatever medical care their situation warrants before being placed in foster homes. Every dog is then carefully matched with a forever home that matches their temperament, activity level and needs.

Baldwin County Humane Society

nominated by Emily of YarnMiracle

Founded in 1979, The Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!) was Baldwin County, Alabama's first animal advocacy group. There were no other shelters or rescue groups in the county at that time. Since then, multiple animal welfare groups have been formed in many of Baldwin's towns and cities, but BARC! remains the only county-wide animal rescue resource.

This 501(c)3 not-for-profit is run as an adoption agency rather than a shelter. BARC! relies on volunteers to foster animals in their homes until they are placed with their adoptive family. The goal of the organization is to "eliminate the number of abused and abandoned pets through spay/neuter, education, rescue and adoption."

UNITED ANIMAL ALLIANCE

nominated by Julie of BlindWolfSpirit

The UAA is a 501( c) that goes into schools and organizes entertainment events in inner cities to reach out to young people in an attempt to put an end to dog fighting. “The reality we face today: dog fighting and other inner-city animal abuses are at higher levels than ever before -- a problem that affects both animals and humans alike.

The dream we envision: We envision serving as a community resource for information on animal rights, bringing animal cruelty prevention programs to schools in urban American, and motivating children and the communities in which they live to create a safer more compassionate environment for animals and children.

We envision a world in which the animals of our community are treated with kindness, love and respect, a world which will help foster generations of positive, empowered, life-affirming children, and a world in which it will be cool to be kind, not cruel."
