1. Stop the Faroe Islands Whale Massacre
Each year in the waters near the Faroe Islands, off the coast of Denmark and Iceland, there is a massacre of pilot whales who are lured into shallow waters and killed in a most inhumane way. While the annual slaughter has roots in tradition, it's wasteful, completely unnecessary and is threatening populations of whales.
Sign the petition asking the Faroe Islands Prime Minister Kaj Leo Johannesen to end this brutal event for good.
2. Tell Congress to Give Benefits to Retired Military Working Dogs
Unlike our soldiers, military working dogs don't receive any medical benefits when they are retired from duty. Just like their handlers, they can suffer from a number of health issues that potential adopters may not be able to afford to deal with. Reclassifying them from "equipment" to "K9 Service Member" will help ensure they receive the care they deserve when they are no longer on duty.
Sign the petition telling Congress that our military working dogs are not equipment and deserve benefits when they retire.
3. Thank Jane Goodall for 50 Years of Activism
Jane Goodall has has spent her life trying to teach others how nature works based on the belief "that every individual matters, every individual has a role to play and every individual makes a difference.” That same philosophy is also used in her Roots & Shoots program, which is devoted to teaching future generations about human responsibility in respect to nature, in addition to connecting students, parents and educators and providing them with opportunities to learn about animals and get involved in conservation efforts in their communities with the campaign On the Edge: Hope for Animals and Their World. Her accomplishments as an activist, role model and ambassador for animals and the environment can be seen from a local to global scale.
