ANiMAL PETiTiONS CORNER: Alicia of WoodsEdge
Presented by Alicia of WoodsEdge
1. Help Protect Hammerhead Sharks
Millions of sharks are killed every year because of the demand for shark fin soup, in addition to the ones that are killed accidentally as bycatch. The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposed to list four Distinct Population Segments (DPS) of scalloped hammerhead sharks as “threatened” or “endangered” under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) but animal advocates believe all scalloped hammerheads need to be protected.
Please submit a comment to the NMFS before June 4 asking that all species of hammerhead sharks get protection under the ESA to end fishing for them, provide critical habitat and end the sale and trade of their parts.

2. Help Keep Idaho's Owyhee Canyonlands Wild
The Bureau of Land Management is working on plans to manage 517,000 acres of new wilderness and 325 miles of rivers in Idaho's Owyhee Canyonlands, which will affect how the land is used by both wildlife and people.
Please ask the BLM to make sure its plan protects this land from off-road vehicles and illegal trapping of wildlife.

3. Help Ban Owl-Killing Chemicals
Not only is poisoning a sickeningly cruel method of dealing with unwanted rodents, but poison also works its way through the food chain and hurts and kills other non-target animals who prey on them.
Please sign the petition asking the Environmental Protection Agency to ban the use of anticoagulant rodenticides in the United States
