ANiMAL PETiTiONS CORNER by Alicia of Woodsedge

Presented by Alicia of WoodsEdge

1. Help Crack Down on Animal Fighting

The Senate just voted to pass the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, which will close a loophole in current laws and make it a federal crime to attend an animal fight, with additional penalties for bringing a minor. Animal advocates are now hoping it passes the House just as quickly.

Please sign the petition asking your representatives to support this important piece of legislation.

2. Ask the Military to Stop Torturing Animals

Last year the Army’s Asymmetric Warfare Group at Fort Meade, Md., paid a company $132,160 to mutilate and kill more than 100 live animals to train military personnel trauma procedures. Because superior human-based alternatives are available, the use of animals in this type of training is in violation of the Department of Defense's own policies.

Please sign the petition asking the Office of the Inspector General to investigate violations by the Army and SIMMIC, the company involved in  torturing and killing the animals used.

3. Stop Cruel and Wasteful Experiments on Monkeys

Johns Hopkins University was approved and funded with $3.4 million from the NIH to study how the brain processes sound by separating bonded pairs of marmoset monkeys, making sure they couldn't see each other and playing loud white noise to see how it would affect their communication.

Please send a letter to Congress and the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders asking them to stop cruel and wasteful experiments on animals and instead focus on human-based studies to help people with communication disorders.
