ANiMAL PETiTiONS CORNER by Alicia of WoodsEdge

Presented by Alicia of WoodsEdge

1. Help End Cruel Fox Penning in Virginia

Wildlife officials in Virginia are taking a closer look the so called sport of fox penning in the state and will consider actions this spring that may involve adding regulations, or banning it entirely. Animal advocates compare the practice to dogfighting and are fighting for a full ban on the capture, transport and hunting of foxes with dogs in enclosures in the state.

Please sign the petition urging the Governor to put an end this bloodsport in Virginia.

2. Help Protect Canada's Prairies

The government of Saskatchewan is considering selling nearly 2 million acres of native prairie grassland and Manitoba may follow with a sale of close to 700,000 acres of land, which could open the door to the degradation of conservation rules that have been in place for years to protect vital habitats  for wild animals and ensure a balanced land use.

Please sign the petition opposing the sale some of the last prairie ecosystems in existence unless their are guarantees in place that will ensure conservation efforts.

3. Protect Wild Horses in Oregon

Known as "Timber Horses," the wild mustangs in the Murderers Creek Herd Management Area (HMA) and Wild Horse Territory live deep in the forest and are genetically distinct from other wild horses. Yet even though they have hundreds of square miles to live on, the Bureau of Land Management plans on rounding them up over the next ten years and leaving only 50 in the wild, while allowing 5 times the number of cattle to graze in the area.

Please send a letter to the BLM asking that this plan be stopped until the inadequacies and issues with  fair land use are addressed.
