1. Speak Out Against Wolf Delisting

The U.S. Forest Service (USFWS) is proposing the removal of all Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in the lower 48 states, with the exception of Mexican gray wolves, which would turn management over to the states and we've seen how well that's going with the brutal slaughter of hundreds of wolves this past hunting season in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.

2. Support a Ban on Snares in England and Wales

Despite the level of cruelty and indiscriminate nature of snares, they're still used to trap wild animals that are considered pests. They cause needless suffering, pose an additional threat to non-target animals, are nearly impossible to regulate and should have no place in modern society.

3. Save Lives - Get Deadly Poisons Out of Stores

They may only be intended for rats, but rodenticides are accidentally poisoning wildlife, pets and in some cases, children. Regardless of who they're intended to kill, these poisons cause a brutal death and shouldn't be used for any purpose. While the Environmental Protection Agency is trying to deal with the problem of accidental poisoning, stores already have the power to pull these deadly toxins- including d-Con, from their shelves.

1. Help Save Endangered Blue Whales

There are currently less than 10,000 blue whales left on earth who are being needlessly killed in collisions with ships off the coast of California when they migrate through the Santa Barbara coast. The Unfortunately, the Navy has opposed opening up the Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station waters for additional shipping lanes, which would allow ships to avoid waters where these gentle giants swim and feed.

2. Get Protection for Wolverines

There are only a few hundred wolverines left in the wild thanks to trapping, poisoning and hunting, which have all pushed them to the brink of extinction. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering listing them as threatened, but with so few left conservationists are calling for endangered status under the Endangered Species Act.

3. Give a Voice to the 10,000 Lab Animals Who Drowned During Hurricane Sandy

10,000 rats and mice were trapped in cages and left to die at New York University Medical Center in NYC during hurricane Sandy, even though there was enough time to protect them from this gruesome death. In Defense of Animals estimates that 52,000 animals have drowned in facilities that house animals in basements during storms.

3. Oppose Genetically Engineered Salmon

Animals used in agriculture have suffered as a result of genetic tinkering that have caused them to grow faster and bigger than ever to produce more and they've suffered the consequences. Now, the FDA is close to approving the AquAdvantage salmon - the first genetically engineered farmed animal, which has raised concerns about salmon health and welfare, environmental impacts and what the effects will be on humans.

1. Ask the NIH to Stop Funding Heart Failure Experiments on Dogs

The story of Queenie, a young dalmation mix who was sold by a shelter to a Class B dealer who sold her to be used in heart experiments where she was implanted with a device and forced to run on a treadmill while recovering from surgery before she was killed, has turned the spotlight on these types of cruel experiments. Her veterinary records indicate that she was in constant pain and distress.

2. Stop Senseless Bison Killings

There used to be more than 30 million wild bison roaming America's grasslands, but decades of unregulated hunting and habitat loss have reduced their population to fewer than 5,000 - mainly in national parks. Unfortunately, bills in Montana would leave bison at risk of harassment, capture and death if they roam outside of their designated land.

2. Support Emergency Action to Save Mexican Gray Wolves

March 29th marked the 15th anniversary of the Mexican gray wolves reintroduction to the wild.  Yet even after all this time, there are still only an estimated 75 in the wild, with another 300 in captive breeding programs. Wolf advocates fear for their future with so few in the wild and are urging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to take immediate action to keep these wolves from going extinct.

3. Tell the USDA to Do Its Job Help Nosey the Elephant

Animal advocates have been fighting to help save Nosey, but the USDA just gave Hugo Liebel, her owner and abuser, a slap on the wrist. Just before Liebel was set to face a hearing this week for 33 violations of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), the USDA announced it had reached a settlement. Instead of revoking Liebel's license and handing down a maximum penalty of $330,000, the USDA settled with the agreement that Liebel would pay a meager civil penalty of $7,500 and cease and desist from violating the AWA. Sadly, Nosey is the one who will continue to suffer.

1. Tell Congress to Ban Horse Slaughter

The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act was recently introduced with bipartisan support and will prohibit the slaughter of horses for human consumption in the U.S. and ban their export abroad for that purpose, which will protect both consumers and horses, and it comes on the heels of the USDA announcing it will process an application for inspecting horse slaughter facility in New Mexico.

2. Ask Laval University to Stop Killing Piglets

The Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine has filed a complaint with the Quebec City Director of Criminal and Penal Proceedings in Canada, arguing that Laval University is violating the province's animal cruelty law by using and killing piglets in its pediatrics residency training program.

1. Ask Lawmakers in RI to Protect Pets from Mutilation

Legislation was recently introduced in Rhode Island that would prohibit landlords from requiring tenants to devocalize or declaw their pets. However, animal advocates are arguing that landlords aren't the reason pets are exposed to these dangerous and unnecessary surgeries - irresponsible owners are, and even if this law is passed landlords will easily be able to bypass it by banning pets entirely which would make it even harder for renters with companion animals to find a place to live.

1. Stop Slaughter of Deer in Rock Creek Park

Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC has been a haven for deer for 120 years until now. The National Park Service has ordered the killing of half of the park's 314 deer by either baiting them with treats and shooting them with guns and arrows or catching them in nets and shooting them in the head with captive-bolt guns.

The wild horses in Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado have been around for a while and are considered a part of the park's natural landscape and history and are also enjoyed by thousands of people who visit the park every year. A few weeks ago "wildlife specialist" Jamie Olson made the news for sharing pictures of his dogs brutally torturing a female coyote who was caught in a leghold trap. Russell Files, another Wildlife Services agent was just busted for baiting and catching his neighbors 2-year-old dog Zoey in a leghold trap for coming into his yard too many times...all while we paid for him to do it. Wildlife Services kills millions of animals each year and their methods can not only be considered cruel towards wildlife, but they put people and our pets in danger as well.

2. Thank the EU for Banning Animal Testing for Cosmetics

After decades of campaigning, the EU has announced that it is on track to finalize the ban on animal testing for cosmetics this March, which will make it so that anyone selling cosmetic products in the EU will not be allowed to test finished products or their ingredients on animals anywhere in the world, whether or not an alternative to animal testing is available.

1. Help Save Wolverines from Extinction

2. Get Meaningful Sentence for Dog Shootings

Last fall, John Lake commented to his 13-year-old son about shooting dogs they had seen chasing deer, mistakenly believing it was perfectly legal. On a subsequent trip in November, his son shot and killed three dogs, whose bodies were later discovered by a neighbor that knew them. The state's attorney has charged Lake with one felony count of risk of injury to child, one misdemeanor count of accessory to cruelty to animals, one misdemeanor count of accessory to illegal discharge of firearm and one violation of illegal gun/bow hunting by minor.

3. Help Make Poaching a Priority 

Since 2004, 11,100 elephants have lost their lives to poaching in Gabon's Minkebe Park, which was once considered home to Africa's largest forest elephant population, while other studies estimate that as many as 30,000 elephants died last year alone. 1. Stop Brutal Coyote Killing Contest

Animal advocates are speaking out against the upcoming "Coyote Drive 2013" scheduled for early this February in Modoc County, California and are asking the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the California Fish and Game Commission (Commission) to put a stop to it. Not only is any sort of killing contest indefensible, but this one also threatens the state's lone gray wolf, OR-7, who is known to roam in the area.
