The University of California, San Francisco definitely does not have a good track record when it comes to animal care with a $92,500 fine from the USDA and the recent exposure of more than 100 additional violations of the Animal Welfare Act that caused animals immeasurable suffering.
Please send a letter to the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) asking it to remove UCSF's accreditation.
A recent undercover investigation conducted by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection exposed horrific treatment of animals ranging from the cruelty of the experiments themselves and their mistreatment in general to incompetence, disregard for animal suffering and general lack of knowledge about the acceptable treatment of animals and protocols demonstrated by researchers.
There are currently only 29 states that have laws banning the private possession of big cats, while the remaining states have weak or no laws at all in place, leaving big cats to suffer in any number of situations that can range from simply not meeting their needs to being downright abusive. The Big Cat Safety and Protection Act would ban big cats as pets and keep them from being exploited commercially.
Please sign the petition urging your representatives to support the Big Cat Safety and Protection Act.
Thanks for sharing the petitions. I signed them and forwarded to my family and friends.
