Nominate your Favorite Animal Charity !

Nominate your Favorite Animal Charity !

Presented by EFA's COTM Co-Leader

Veronica of ScrappyRat

The only good reason not to nominate a charity for the EFA Charity of the Month Program is because you don't know it exists. Now that you're reading this, that excuse is off the board. lol.

Everyone has a favorite charity that does the work you'd like to do... if only you had the time, resources... OR if you already volunteer for them, don't have two of yourself to do more.

If you're a member of Etsy for Animals, chances are you feel that way about a charity that devotes its time to animal rescue and advocacy. Thanks to the Charity of the Month program, you have the opportunity to nominate that charity to be considered for as a COTM... for a chance to be promoted on the EFA blog, mentioned in the store descriptions of a slew of member stores, and better yet, for them to receive donations from all the participating shops when the month is over. That's a lot of good things we do, as a team, for a different charity every single month, and all you need to do is nominate your favorite ones.

So, now that you're absolutely dizzy with your potential power to do good, you probably want to know exactly what's involved in nominating a charity. Don't worry, it's simple!

First, make sure you're a qualifying member of Team Etsy for Animals. That means your shop participates in the donation program, meaning your primary EFA shop features one to several listings that are dedicated to COTM & are tagged appropriately. There are a lot of good bonuses you get for doing this anyway, like having a real good chance of being featured in special COTM team treasuries AND if you donate $10 or more on any given month to that COTM: you also get an adv on EFA's website-- all in all it's a good deal for you, as well as for animals.

Okay, so you've determined you're eligible, now you'll want to check a few things to make sure the charity you've chosen is a good fit for Etsy for Animals.

Charities must have the following requirements:

√ primary function is to benefit & protect animals

√ puts the welfare, safety and well-being of animals first

√ endorses public education

√ has an active rescue program

√ has proper enclosures & facilities for its residents

√ has sufficient funding to meet the medical needs of the animals

√ neuters animals as appropriate to species

√ has a spay & neuter program before adoption occurs

Charities cannot:

X breed animals

X have any citations or record of animal abuse

X engage in activities that endanger the lives / safety of humans or animals

X raise funds via the display or performance of animals with the exception of domestic pets

or barnyard animals, subject to review on a case-by-case basis.

X promote or take part in the buying/selling of animals alive or dead

FAQ: What happens if my charity gets selected as EFA's COTM ?

"We will contact you to let you know that your charity is being considered for COTM and ask that you contact the organization asap. Team EFA needs to have written permission from your charity in order to feature them on Team EFA's website & main blog as well as fund raise for them on Etsy.com.

We will also be asking that your charity provide their logo as well as promotional photos that can be used on EFA's website/blog. We would also like that they mention Team EFA on their website featuring the EFA logo and the search link to our 'team EFA cotm' products during the cotm month we are working to raise money for them.

Lastly, we will ask you to write an article about your charity which will be featured on EFA's main blog at the beginning of the month."
