Art For Pitties Launched new Blog Site

Art For Pitties Launched new Blog Site

New York, NY- Art For Pitties, a fundraising initiative spearheaded by long-time activist Jenith Mateja, is launching its blog site on July 1st. Art For Pitties is a collaborative project showcasing over 30 artists and their work throughout the month of July at blog address: http://artforpitties.blogspot.com. Each artist will donate a piece of original art or design a one-of-a-kind tote bag to be auctioned online during the month of August. All proceeds will benefit San Diego-based pit bull rescue and advocacy group Even Chance.

In the United States, pit bulls are underdogs. Misrepresented by the media and associated with fighting and aggressive behavior, these loving family dogs are the subject of breed bans and are often euthanized in shelters. The stigma surrounding pit bull ownership is currently unmatched by other breeds and Even Chance seeks to provide education and advocacy while running a rescue that finds homes for these loyal dogs.

All artists involved in Art For Pitties has a pit bull as a companion animal or is an advocate for the breed. They are working together to raise much needed funds for costs associated with medical needs,
spay and neuter procedures, food, crates, heartworm preventatives and training classes as well as literature needed for outreach programs and events.

The Art For Pitties blog will feature the initiative’s mission to educate the public on the plight of the pit bull and to create an awareness of this through art.

Art for Pitties

I strongly believe that there are no bad dogs, only bad owners. It is sad that the American Pit Bull Terrier, once a loved and respected companion animal, has gained such a bad reputation by falling into the hands of irresponsible and cruel humans. By working with Even Chance, I hope to help restore this greatly misunderstood breed’s image in the public eye.

Even Chance is a San Diego based charity that rescues temperamentally sound pit bulls from shelters, hospitals, organised dog fighting rings & other inhumane situations. Rescued dogs are fostered until safe & loving forever homes are found for them. The charity also seeks to counteract misinformation about pit bulls with factual education, communication & resources for the public, including pit bull owners & potential adopters.

Art For Pitties, a project co-ordinated by Jenith Mateja, brings together pit bull loving artists to raise awareness about pit bulls & dispel the modern day myth that these dogs are inherently dangerous. I am proud to be one of the 30+ creative designers, illustrators, musicians & artists who have designed one-of-a-kind tote bags to be auctioned via the internet. The auction will be held in mid August & all funds raised will go to Even Chance.

The design I have printed onto my tote was derived from a photograph of pit bull baby, Cairo, who lives in Indiana with his owner, Celeste. Cairo looks so sweet & peaceful in this picture & it reminds me that any dog can be brought up & nurtured to be a loving & trustworthy companion. I also love the way the resulting print looks quite abstract & almost like a spiralling
sea shell.

I printed the image of
Cairo onto the tote in 4 brightly coloured contrasting colours, which I think give it a sort of ‘pop art’ feel. As a small thank you to Celeste for permitting me to use her photo, I also printed a smaller tote for her. Both totes are currently on their way over to the States in the mail. I’m so happy to be part of this project & hope we raise lots of awareness & funds for Even Chance.

Be sure to stop by
the Art For Pitties blog for updates on the project, information about all the artists involved & details of the auction itself.

AUGUST COTM: Winslow Farm Sanctuary

August Charity of the Month,
chosen by Heather of http://aktie9.etsy.com

Winslow Farm Sanctuary
Norton Massachusetts

"Our Mission: To provide a high quality "stay-for-life" animal sanctuary, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and care of mistreated and abandoned animals, to promote the prevention of animal mistreatment through quality educational programs and events, and to advocate the preservation of wildlife habitat."

This month, I won the choice of charity !

I chose Winslow Farm Sanctuary, since I heard about them via the Facebook account of Turtle Mountain. MMM try their ice cream, it's delish ! They were having a 4th of July event at the farm here in Massachusetts where I live. Wished I didn't have any 4th plans, as we would have gone to visit them then. The story on their website just sounded so nice, so wonderful.

A great thing to do for some animals in need of our compassion & love. Seemed like a place that was right up my alley, one we should rally behind and give our support to.

25% of my shop sales for the Month of August is going to the EFA Charity of the Month. In addition *ANY* animal item in this shop is a 100% donation to the COTM also.

As soon as I get up there to visit, I will be happy to post a photo montage here for you all to see what it's like there at the sanctuary. See EFA's website here.

Thanks for checking it out !!
XOXO Heather
